MKC Beginnings

Mount Kenya Coffee is founded by Kabi Kuguru, a young woman from Nyeri, Kenya. Drawing inspiration from her childhood on her family farm, Kabi has created a brand that highlights the rich flavors and quality of Kenyan coffee. With Mount Kenya Coffee, she invites you to enjoy the unique flavour profiles that highlight her heritage.

Growing up Kabi loved exploring the “Shamba” (Kiswahili for garden) with her dad. He would share stories about the trees and their uses for health, nutrition, and medicine, along with how crops were grown. While she didn’t fully appreciate it back then, those moments spent with her dad left a lasting impression.

In 2012, Kabi found her self travelling the world and eventually setting her roots in Australia, but a part of her always felt a pull back home. She remembered the joy of playing in the Shamba, surrounded by vibrant crops. It was less about learning the names of plants and more about the simple pleasure of being in nature.

Sydney’s vibrant coffee culture brought back warm childhood memories, like moments spent running her hands through the coffee beans drying under the African sun and ignited a desire to learn more about the coffee world and join the journey from farm to cup.
